Georgia State Panters

Bill Curry lead his Georgia State Panthers into the Georgia Dome for their inaugural game against Shorter.  As soon as the Panthers entered the stadium to the roars of their fans, they knew that all the hard work they put in during those hot and humid summers was all worth it.  30,237 showed up to see the Panthers destroy Shorter (0-2) Thursday night 41-7.  From the looks of it, 90% of the fans were wearing Panther-blue.

Paris Lee scored Georgia State’s first touchdown on a 4-yard run with 9:07 left in the first quarter, and the panthers never looked back.  Lee added another touchdown in third quarter, and finished with 8 carries for 64 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Drew Little, the redshirt freshman, finished 13-17 for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns. Little was named starting quarterback over Star Jackson, a transfer from Alabama who served as Greg McElroy’s backup on the national championship team last season.

The other story of the night was the return of, 67-year old coach, Bill Curry, whose been “retired” for last 14 years. Curry is a former head coach for Georgia Tech, Alabama and Kentucky, and also a former assistant coach for the Green Bay Packers. He was forced into retirement by the Wildcats in 1996 and hasn’t coached at all until now. Curry will lead the Panthers into the Georgia Dome for their next game against the Lambuth University Eagles (0-1).

I absolutely love when schools create new athletic programs and bring back the greats that once coached the current greats.  Good luck to Bill Curry and the new Georgia State Panthers Football team!
